'‘Demigods’ is proposed for inclusion in a group exhibition scheduled for 2026. Its basis is an intertwining of aspects of Carl Jung’s concept of the ‘collective unconscious’ with Pope Gregory I’s ‘Seven Capital Vices,’ exploring how our most dominant weaknesses propel us toward destructive behaviours. Each vice, depicted as an embryo-like demigod within the psychic womb, demands sustenance, their power waxing or waning according to the balance of our virtues. As some vices grow ever more luminous, fed by indulgence, others fade in the shadow of stronger virtues. The project aims to capture this perpetual dance, where the luminosity of these weaknesses ebb and flow, reflecting the shifting tides of the human condition—lust may wane as pride ascends. This work offers an introspective critique, a snapshot of self at a particular moment in time, with each demigod bearing the Latin name of its vice: Superbia, Invidia, Ira, Acedia, Avaritia, Gula, and Luxuria.
